I did a little shopping at Raccoon Hobbies and found an offering of the old Helms Deep castle wall from Games Workshop. The price was very cheap, so I picked it up for the collection. I have been looking for a decent looking castle wall to place on the corner of a game table and this one fits the bill perfectly.
I actually never saw the model when it was originally on the market, so was surprised when I saw it. It is a fully painted resin model with felt bottom basing. The model comes in three pieces. There is a central entrance section and two flanking walls. The walls can also both be placed on one side to give a stagger look.
The kit also has opening and closing double doors at the game. There are also opening defender ports at the top of the gate!
I got the kit home and liked the overall look. I could have spent a little time adding more depth to the stone to pimp up the walls. However, I was not in the mood to checker paint all the stones. However, I did think it would look good to lighten the cap stones at the top and around the gate.
With that in mind, I grabbed some light gray from Vallejo and drybrushed up the cap stones and gate arches. I guess this could turn off a future buyer, but I am not too worried about that!
With a little extra paint, I now have my castle!
