It was time for our next Pulp game, but my gaming bunker is under unplanned renovation. So, I could not get to most of my terrain or minis! Fortunately, I have lots of friends with lots of miniatures! So, a good buddy of mine stepped up and offered to bring out his 28mm WWI minis and terrain.

I figured it would be a nice way to try a bit more of a traditional war game, but using 7TV Pulp rules. My buddy showed up and set up his terrain on a WWI battlefield. He had a good number of German and French painted, so I organized them into half squads. Each half squad was lead by a sergeant or corporal. There were four units of French and three of German. The French were given one star to lead their force. The Germans got two, as I had to balance the points between the two forces.

I went with a simple battle line scenario. Each side would set up within six inches their respective edges (based on roll off). I set up five objective markers. Four of these would be worth D2 victory points. The fifth was the Maguffin and would be worth D3+1 points. Victory points would also be added for casualties. Each extra wound would be worth half a point. Each star wound would be worth one point.

We started off with the Germans getting the initiative and moving first. The first few turns were uneventful, as both sides moved forward. On the third turn, the French were able to get off the first shots, causing heavy casualties on the Germans, while grabbing the Macguffin. As the Germans were already outnumbered, this did not look good! A timely stealing of the scene on the next turn, made things even worse.

At this point, both sides started pulling double cards to improve their plot point totals. Things slowed down a bit, as both sides positioned themselves and took potshots. It looked like the French were going to slide to an easy victory.

Then the Germans stepped it up and started to claw their way forward wish some aggressive movement and shooting. As the turn went on, the French casualties started to pile up. As the French had more objectives, they began to fall back, to protect their lead. The Germans continued to push. This caused the French to get axed. Due to their commander, their morale checks were passed on a 2+. They only had one figure run away. One final French volley did the same to the Germans at the end (they lost three figures).

The game finally ended with the French loosing fifteen troops to the German eleven. However, the French had two objectives and the Macguffin, while the German had none. That was enough to edge out a French minor victory.

It was an interesting game, with a high portion of extras and low number of stars. I needed to balance the extras a little better. However, overall, it played well and everyone had a good time. Worth another try!
