I am always looking for the odd bit of kit to add to my gaming tables. That is definitely true for my work on expanding my Star Wars Legion tables. While searching on eBay for stuff, I did a search against old Star Wars toys from Hasbro. You never know what things you can find when looking at old toys! I came across a few creature sets that came out when the Phantom Menace was released so many years ago.
There were four sets. Two ground animals and two sea creatures. I do not have any plans to do underwater terrain at the moment, so I passed on those. However, the other two sets interested me, as the size looked right. I found a few sets at different prices and chose the cheapest! The sets arrived in their original packing, which was a cloth bag with the creatures in it. For some reason, the bags were filled with some neon green powder and the figures were also covered with this. Not sure what that was all about, but I washed it off. I did not start glowing, so no worries!
I decided to mount all the creatures on some wood Litko bases that I had. First, I sprayed them brown to get a base color on them. I then attached the figures with white glue. Once this set, I applied GW Agrellian Earth crackle paint, like I use on my gaming figures. Once this dried, I hit this with a tan drybrush. I also added some dry brushing to the figures themselves to pick out some upper areas.
I finished by adding spiky tufts, like my gaming models. In this case, I decided to add more than one or two. I tried to cover the base more to represent the animals finding a spot to do a little snacking. I finished with some Dull Coat spray. Stay tuned to see these wandering around on a future game table!
