The next batch to finish up in the Lend Lease Armor Project are my 79th armored division LVTs. I bought these to field with my British to support various amphibious assaults in Holland. Like my MA4s, I decided I did not want to mud up the lower hull. I considered it, but the running gear is so unique that I wanted it to be seen!
I skipped over these when doing the mud step on the larger project. When I looped around to do the track painting, I pulled these out. I started with the GW black contrast on all the treads (this proved to be more fiddly painting than I expected, do to all the recesses), access port inside and weapons. Once I finished this step, I went back with Vallejo London Gray and hit the raised areas on all the treads. While painting all these, I must admit I was regretting not just mudding these up…. I finally finished and put these back in the box with the other vehicles and moved forward with more vehicles.
Once it came time for decals, I pulled these out and hit the desired areas with gloss coat. I then applied the decals on the areas to represent the 79th armored division. I finished up with a drybrush of Vallejo Iraqi Sand and a spray of Tamiya Dull coat.
With that, these are also done. I found painting the treads a bit of a pain, while doing it. However, I am happy that I did not that they are done!
