A couple of buddies and I got together for a quick game of Age of Sigmar (AOS). None of us had played in a while and we only had a little bit of time. As such, we decided on a very small point battle (500 per side). Using the General’s Compendium we build our armies and started the game.
The terrain was dominated by a large walled farm in the middle of the table. This was bracketed by woods and their was a small stream on one flank.
Chaos one the die roll and chose the side and had the Woods Elves start set up. Both players alternated setting up, with the WE seting up last (we forgot that a player can set up more than one unit at a time!). The next roll resulted in the Chaos Warriors getting the first turn. the began by sweeping forward and going around the farm on their right. The WE fainted left, but started to mass on the right in order to keep distance and maximize the effectiveness of their shooting. The initial fire put a few wounds on the Chaos Chariot and whittled down the knights a bit. As the warriors began coming around the farm, they let their units get out of supporting range. This allowed the WE to concentrate fire and mass their own units.
Melee started with a long charge by the Chaos Knights, which resulted in the total destruction of a unit of WE Glade Guard (ouch)! However, with the Chaos units stacked up, the WE were able to engage each Chaos unit one at a time, shooting and fighting each to destruction! In the end, the grind resulted in the destruction of the Chaos army!
It ended up being a fund and quick game for everyone. The General’s Compendium point values are most recommended to balance out the play. That will a good narrative scenario makes all the difference when playing this game. If you want a quick fun game, AOS fits the bill!
