While attending HMGS Fall In, I came across a large foam rock terrain feature that was not already part of my collection. I remembered I still had some space in my storage box holding my tan rock features, so I figured I would pick it up (plus it was cheap).
I had pimped up some GF9 mars terrain last year for legion and I wanted this piece to match. With the GF(, I just had to highlight it up. Since this was not primed, I had to start from scratch.
As GF9 always starts with black, I primed the foam with black spray primer. The GF9 terrain had a brown drybrush, so I then did the same and applied a heavy wet brush in dark brown, this was followed up by a red brown. This got the piece to the base of where my GF9 started!
Next I had to get the rock up to tan. So, I puled out three levels of tan and got to work with a big brush. Three layers and finished it up. I finished with some krypton dull coat (which is satin) to seal it up. All done.
I love foam terrain and wish more companies made this type of terrain. It is so light and holds great detail. This allows for large pieces that will no collapses the legs on your gaming table. This makes storage and transport easy. You can find these types of foam rock features as Railroad terrain. A simple search on Amazon or Ebay will produce plenty of options. If you’re interested, check them out.
