While filling my shopping cart on the Legion Terrain website, I scanned through their Ancient Dark Temple line. I really do not have any plan to build a Sith based terrain set, but you never know what you can find. Well, the first item was two large weather beaten statues. I thought these would work well on my ancient temple terrain set up. I did not see anything on these that looked particularly Sith, as they are generic guys in clones. So, into the cart they went.
Like everything else, they are a PLA 3D print. That means a lot of obvious print lines. Where terrain is natural and lateral, it can work. In this case, I figured the it would work for the age old worn look. however, the other issue with PLA, is top and hang over details. These can look very stringy. This was defiantly the case on these models.
I thought I would try to add some white clue to the top and hood front to try to fill the singly look in a bit. It shrunk a bit more than I expected, so I would have to rely on the paint. I hit the models with some dark gray auto primer to fill a bit more. Next was some Woodland Scenics black. Then came the painting. I basically started with a dark wet brush of medium gray and went progressively lighter on the brushing with each lighter shade of paint (four colors in all). I once again went to the Krylon for the satin finish to try to tone down the layering.
In the end, I think the models came out OK and they will work. In hind sight, I would have used gloss coat brush paint over the kit to smooth it out. Lesson learned for the next project!
