My first game back from my trip was some LotR. A buddy of mine set up the game, so I jumped in to practice using my dice rolling hand. There were four of us playing the game, so we randomly assigned players. I ended up with part of the Dale force.

The scenario was based on who had the most objectives at the end of the game (I think it was supposed to be eight turns). The table was laid out as a small village with some trees on the periphery. Each force had to roll to see if they started twelve inches in or on the bak edge. We had two bolt throwers, so hoped these would set up back, but that is not how the dice fell unfortunately. That kind of meant that these would be overrun on the first turn, so we tried to work around that.

We got started with the Orcs charging forward to take out the bolt throwers. Fortunately, the brave crew fought bravely and defended their weapons for quite some time, so it was not a total loss. Our forces worked the flanks and center and tried to use our archery advantage to its full, while committing out heavy forces to take out as many of the outnumbering orcs as possible.

We ended up getting bogged down in the fighting, but still managed to get the orc army to its break point first. Unfortunately, we could not get forward though and they had the majority of the objectives. With that, it looks like we would have to give up the town and fight another day.

A nice little game to get me back into gaming mode!
