After I pick up the 1914 rules, I decided that I should get an opponent for my Belgian infantry company. That is a of coarse a short list! I did not have the interest in painting the army myself. So, I decided to give myself a Christmas present of a German army from Gajo Minis.
I decided to order enough troops to cover three platoons, with full support. The idea was that I could mix the figures as needed to represent regular grenadiers, Stosstruppen or Jaegers. The support would be two 76mm guns, two MMG platoons, a sniper and enough flame-throwers, light mortars, LMGs to build all three types of platoons.
Gajo sells their troops with camo and grey helmets. I decided I would like to mix the types to give some variation. So, I ordered one grey for every two camo helmet troop packs.
The box arrived in time for Xmas, so the I had the perfect present! From me to me!
I organized the sets into the base groupings I wanted and got out enough bases for the army. Most came with the figures, but my mix was a little different, so I pulled a few extra out of my base box. I sprayed these all dark brown from Krylon. I then glued all the figures to the bases and let those dry. I left off all the laying down figures that did not have a round mounting base attached.
Next, I covered the bases with Vallejo dark brown Russian mud and let that dry. I then dry brushed the bases with light hits of medium brown and tan. I wanted to go with the mud no man land look, so I kept them dark and did not add any grass or tufts (this could change in the future). Once that was all dry, I glued on the loose laying down figures and gun models. A coat of Army Painter Dull Coat and they are ready to go!
