Gajo Miniatures added a new set of painted Militia for their painted Napoleonic Spanish line. I do not have a Spanish army for the Napoleonic Wars (yet), but thought they would work for some civilian dressed landwehr or militia for 1813. So, I picked up a few packs!

As with all Gajo painted miniatures, you can buy them individually or in packs of twelve (for infantry). I grabbed four packs, as that would get me enough for twelve bases (using Napoleon’s Battles basing). Since they are militia, they do not have a command option, like the more regular troops. However, the straight packs give you a few figures you could use as poorly dressed commanders, so you are covered. The figures come in various color combinations to give a nice rag tag look. I was short one figure when I went through the sets. However, a short email to Gajo and they already have it in the mail to me!

I got the figures and glued them to some white metal bases (pre-sprayed green) with white glue. I then flocked the bases with Howard Hughes green and Woodland Scenics mixed turf flock. I finished up with a spray coat of Dull Coat from Army Painter.

The figures are done using the Foundry method, using multiple shades of color over black. This gives a nice shaded appearance for a table top figure. Gajo recently raised their prices after a number of years. So, they are a little more expensive. However, compared to what you see from other companies, they are very competitive. The best deal is the unit packs, which is where I try to stick. The customer service continues to be top notch, with quick response to any question. Always a pleasure dealing with them.

I nice little addition to my forces. Maybe I do need a Spanish army…..
