Now that I have my base troops done for my Gnome army, it is time to fill out the rest of the force. The next thing to work on was a few foot characters and some unit fillers to fill in the blocks of troops.
The characters are a mix of Splintered Light and Peter Pig. four mages and six heroes. I painted these up the same way as the base troops I posted earlier.
Next was the fillers. I started with a couple of 80mm wide strips. I decided to make these a little denser than the single model per 20 that I used for the troops. I think this gives a more varied look. I also wanted to add some other effects.
One of the models I had was sitting on a mushroom. This gave me an idea, I would get some large mushrooms to add as fillers! So, onto the web I went and I found some large mushrooms in 3D resin through Etsy. They were perfect, so I ordered those!
I painted up the random troops like the base models. This included the guy on the mushroom and some drunk gnomes sleeping it off. I found a fairy and added her to one of the bases. I had some old resin small mushrooms from Kromlech in my terrain box, so added them too. All the mushrooms were sprayed tan. I decided to stay with the red theme of the hats and painted all the tops red. I hit the models with a brown wash and highlighted up the bases and red tops. I then worked on the bumps and opted to go with white spots to match my mushroom standards.
I finished up with the same basing as before, adding all the different flower colors to each base. A coat of Army Painter matt sealer and I have some unit fillers and characters to go with the army!
