While filling up my shopping cart with some proxy Epic 40k models, I came across a modular building set being offered by Vanguard Miniatures. They were not priced badly, so I thought I would pick them up to add to my collection.
The set is molded from gray hard plastic. The set is totally modular, so you can build whatever type of building you want. The set comes with multiple three inch square walls, some crown sections and a number of flying buttresses. They give a very 40k gothic look, so works well with the GW 40k universe.
I decided to make a handful of two section tall structures to fill out my existing buildings and give some different shapes. So, I glued the sections together using plastic model glue. I did not have enough buttresses for all the buildings, but enough to make a few stand out more. Giving a few more plain buildings that will bridge the look to my plainer existing buildings.
I decided to go with a very simple paint job, as I did not want to spend too much time painting them. I also realized at this point that I glued some of the panels on upside down, so did not need to make that stick out too much!
I sprayed the buildings with grey primer. I stated with a heavy black wash from woodland scenics. I then dry brushed three shades of grey over all the buildings and finished with a satin finish spray to seal everything.
Not a bad set if you are looking for flexibility and a gothic look. It takes a little time to put the sections together and you need to be more careful than I was to make sure nothing is upside down or sideways. If you want, you can spend a lot more time painting them for color variation. You can even cut them up to make ruins if you like. Plenty of options!
