After my recent LotR game, I decided to see what I had in the area of terrain for the system. I have plenty of fantasy terrain for other games, so have the generic stuff covered. However, I felt I should paint up what little I had, before I moved onto the next shiny object.
I found some sprues of terrain that I had picked up some time ago. Some of the items were cut off and gifted to a buddy of mine a while back, but I kept the Gondor and Dwarf bits. I glued these all together with some Tamiya cement which works well with GW plastic. The dwarf sections include four plinths that go together at an angle and have a bad seam. I plan to add some statues to these in the future, so I decided not to bother with filling and sanding.
All the Dwarf terrain in for Moria caverns, but I decided to make it for outside use instead. While sticking the assembled sections on a board to prime, I also found a stack of stone sections from some Wiz Kids spiders I painted last year. I decided to go ahead and paint these at the same time, as I could use them as outcrops or maybe add them to larger bases for other models.
I sprayed all the parts light grey with Krylon Primer. Once that dried, I hit all the parts with a black wash. I then web brushed up some medium grey and followed with some light grey as a drybrush. I then hit the lower sections of the stone items with some GW earthsade and camoshade wash to give some aging effect. I then hit everything with the last light grey drybrush. The ground areas were painted brown and then dry brushed up to tan. I hit all the minor ground items with some contrast colors and off white for the paper. The next stage was to add some flock with white glue and let that dry. I wrapped up with the usual Krylon Dull Coat.
