I ordered a whole bunch of terrain items from Acheson Creations during their holiday sale. I picked up 28mm items to fill out some Pulp and F&I items for 28mm. I recently received an email from them informing me that they will be shutting down shop next May, so thought it would be a good idea to work on some items before placing my last order with them in May.
I started with a stone pier kit that I liked the look of. I thought it would be a nice end cap for some tables, along with some of my other water front items. The set comes made of the usual Acheson light gray hard resin. Like all their kits, it is very smooth and clean, without any mold lines. You do need to clean the release agent off the kits, as you paint may not stick otherwise. However, that is just some soap and water and a little time for drying.
I sprayed the sections with a medium grey primer. I then went over them with a dark grey wash from Woodland Scenics. I then hit the grey areas with a few levels of drybrush and went back and picked out individual stones and hit them with two different shades of grey as a heavy drybrush. Next was the wood. I wanted to go with the oiled wood effect, so I started with some dark brown. I then hit them with a couple layers of lighter brown and a shade of grey.
The metal fittings were all hit with GW contrast black paint to represent the painted iron. I was happy with the base, so did not add any dry brushing to that. I finished up with some Krylon dull coat to give a satin finish and seal the models. I prefer satin on stone, as I think it gives a better stone effect.
With that, I have a pier, now I just need to pick the next terrain piece to work on! With that said, if you like Acheson Creations, get your orders in now, before they are not available any longer!
