I joined into my buddies LotR game that he set up on his last LotR night. The scenario was set up so that each side had to cross the table and exit more models than their opponent, by a factor of two. There were also points for killing characters and breaking your opponents army.
The table was set in a east desert theme, with rocks/palm trees and tents breaking up the line of site. Each side set up within six inches of their respective board edges. However, the units had to roll to enter, so there was a little bit of a delay for some of the units.
The orcs had five war bands and a bolt thrower. The rangers had four units and were outnumbered, but definitely had the shooting and character advantage. Each side was 700 points, as the game was a primer for an upcoming tourney.
We set up our units and advanced towards the center. The rangers tried to take advantage of their shooting in the early turns (with good effect), while the orcs used their battle drum to close quickly. The bolt thrower had a lucky shot and took out Faramir on turn two! Other than that, it picked off a couple of guys, but did effect the rangers movement choices.
The orcs were able to get into the fight with the ranger right and center, while pinning the ranger left. The allowed the orc numbers to come into play and they slowly ground the rangers down peicemeal.
The rangers finally broke and the orcs had plenty of troops to exit. With that, it was a 10-1 orc victory!
