I found some cactus models during the last convention that I thought I could use for pulp. I picked them up. Now that I had the models, I needed to figure out what to do with them! So, looking them over, considering the size, I thought they would work on a mixed base…
So, I pulled out some flat round bases and mounted the cactus on these using super glue. I then painted them up using a light green gray paint. I then painted them up with a dark green heavy wash, followed up with a light green dry brush. Next I painted the flowers with purple with a lighter purple highlight. I then covered the base with some tan pumice from Vallejo. Looking over the base, I thought something else, as it was too sparse. So, I grabbed some rocks from my terrain box and added these to the bases. This seemed to work, so I hit the base with a brown wash. I then hit all the dirt and rocks with a light tan, with another lighter shade again.
I still though something else was needed, so pulled out some two centimeter tan tufts to represent dry short grass around the rocks and added these to the bases. Sealed everything with some Krylon. With that, a little time and I now have some scatter terrain. Of coarse I found some more larger cactus in my terrain box that I need to do next….
