I recently posted about my little project to re-base my Thirty Years War European troops to play
Twilight of Divine Right. Well, the other army I had sitting in a storage box was my old Ottoman army for the same period. I actually bought all these forces to do games around the 1683 Vienna campaign (this gaming fissiled out before I managed to get any Polish).
Well, it turned out that I did not have enough bases after remounting my Imperials (I always mess up my counts), as I did not settle on figure counts per base until I started glueing them down (it’s all about the esthetics). So, another order to Shogun Miniatures for me. I got the bases back and got to work.
The first step was to pull all the figures off the existing bases. This just required pulling out my Xacto and slipping it under the figure base and popping them up. I had used metal bases and white glue in the old rules, so this went rather quickly while watching TV. I did end up with a whole Buch of loose flock everywhere, so I did need to pull out the hand held vacuum to clean up!
I started by spraying all the bases with dark brown Krylon spray paint. I then test placed the figures to decide on how many I wanted on a bases. The figure counts do not matter for the rules. There are recommendations in one of the scenario books. However, I thought tighter formations looked better for some of the troops. So, with my Tacky Glue in hand, I glued down all the figures.
I then pulled out my Howard Hughes GeoHex Green and a flat brush. I quickly painted each base and dipped them in green Woodland Scenics flocking. I let that dry and then sprayed all the stands with Testors Dullcoat to lock in the flocking better and dull down the figures.
With that, I now have my Ottomans redone and ready to play!

With the recent passing of a good gaming colleague and NOGAG member, I acquired the late Rudy Segaar’s nicely painted Renaissance Poles. He took great care with his figures. The relief of Vienna is a possibility.
