While on my recent road trip, I came across a set of Gale Force Nine Galactic Warzones Defense Turrets. The set was marked down and I had been meaning to buy these, so I picked them up. The set is clearly meant for Star Wars, so I thought they would be a nice addition to my terrain for Star Wars Legion.
The set comes in three pieces. The weapons platform is one piece and the defense turret has a base and the turret itself. As is normal for GF9 these days, they come wrapped in bubblewrap in a nice box.
Upon inspecting them, they were a little too dark for my taste and I felt had insufficient color definition. This is often how I feel about GF9 terrain, as I often think it either needs a wash, another dry brush or both. In this case, I felt they needed both. That is not to say that they are poor paint jobs. Just I like a little extra on mine and like to pimp them up.
I started with applying a black wash over all the models. Once this dried, I hit the models with a medium gray wet brush and then followed this up with a light gray dry brush. Once that was done, I went back and added some red, green and white to the various knobs, lights and cables to add some color. I also decided I wanted the guns to be more obvious, so I hit them with GW black contrast paint. Some semi gloss Krylon dull coat and they were done.
With a little time, I now have the two weapons platforms to add to my various Legion tables. Along with moister evaporators, nothing says Star Wars terrain more than a defense turret!
