While at my FLGS, I saw some new offering in the Pathfinder Battles Deep Cuts: Giant Eagle line. One of which was a new Eagle model. I decided to pick three up to fill out my Eagle units for T9A. At only $4.99 a model, they are the cheapest models on the market!
The models come packed in a clear blister that makes them easily visible, so you know what you are getting. They are cleanly molded with very little flash (had a little on the underside). They are molded in a semi hard grey plastic and ready for painting. Being semi hard, they are resilient to damage. Being largish models, they are not likely to bend and chip from use though.
I was not in the mood to spend too much time on them, so I decided to go with a mature golden eagle scheme. This would make finishing them straight forward, as it is mostly about shades of brown and tan.
After spending five minutes cleaning up a little flash, I sprayed the models Krylon camo dark brown. After that dried, I painted the beak and feet yellow and let that dry. Next was a dark brown wash. I cam back to the models the next day and just dry brushed up various layers of brown and tan for the effect I was looking for. I highlighted the beak and feet and painted details (claws, mouth and white wing tips). Once the eagle was done, I ballasted, painted and flocked up some 50mm square bases and attached the models. A little dull coat spray and the eagle are ready for the table.
I cannot say enough about these models. Cheap, easy to paint and they look good. If your looking for a eagle solution and are on a budget, don’t pass these by!
